Molded glass bowl signed Pierre d’Avesn, France 1930s.
D’Avesn (1901-1990) From his real name Pierre Girre. Pierre d’Avesn was a student of Franois Decorchement at the Ecole des Arts Dcoratifs. He was hired by Lalique where he stayed for 10 years. He worked at Daum between 1930 and 1936 where he developed the production of pressed molded glass in the Lorrain Nancy production department. He joined the Verlys company in 1937 in the Hollophane glass department at the Andelys glassworks. After 1945 he worked at the Choisy le Roi glassworks where he reissued old models and created new ones. He remained there until his retirement in 1984. Considered as one of the last glassmakers of the Art Deco period, he died in Paris at the age of 90.
