Description
These late-19th-century brown-patina reglet sculptures of a couple are signed by Henri Weiss (19th-20th). The female sculpture holds a stool and bucket, representing agriculture as she milks her animals. She is dressed in a dress with drapery details and a scarf over her head. Her posture is more curved, evoking the hard labor of her work.
The male figure, one hand out of his pocket, whistling, wears a wide-brimmed straw hat and carries a wicker basket filled with fruit and vegetables. Both sculptures stand on circular red wooden bases that contrast with the metal finish of the figures. These works reflect the art and style of the late 19th century, capturing aspects of everyday life and traditional crafts of the period.
