Description
A large and very well executed mid century modernist harbour scene, painted in oil onto canvas. This composition depicts a harbour view at night, with the moon casting its light on the boat, buildings and figures. The artist has used the contrasts of shape, colour and form to his advantage to create this modernist scene. The silhouettes of the boats and buildings have been very cleverly outlined with white, and the reflection of the moon can be seen on the water in yellow. In the forefront we see figures also standing in the reflection of the light, which has been painted in white. Towards the right we see a warm glow from the window of a house. This nostalgic composition captures the beauty of the night by the water wonderfully. The painting is presented in a very complementary slim gilt frame, which illuminates the painting. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some minor scuffing. Size: 64 x 78.5 cm (including frame)
