Description
Oil painting on canvas depicting rustic courtyard signed at lower left Guido Casciaro 1900-1963. Historical Background: He stands first and foremost as a great figurative painter, therefore far from any experimentation and consistent, from the beginning, with a poetics that will remain constant throughout his production. Guido Casciaro is first and foremost a landscape painter. A child of art, he trained at his father’s school, living in a house/museum, an exclusive meeting place for artists and literati. A coveted place steeped in culture and art, in which young Guido formed his own critical consciousness. And it is precisely this early awareness of the things of Art that leads him to detach himself, albeit with some pain, from his father’s manner and technique. In fact, Guido Casciaro shows, since his youthful trials, that he technically prefers oil painting and that he has understood and absorbed the landscape lesson of the most up-to-date and innovative Neapolitan authors (from Crisconio to Viti for instance), thus choosing to portray bare, essential, sometimes blatantly ugly landscapes, which he enriches and enlivens with his pictorial matter, with broad and compendious brushstrokes of pure synthesis.
