Description

This pair of bookends bears the Pierrefonds brand and the number 422. It is a stoneware from the 1930s. Two jars are placed on stylized geometric supports. Pierrefonds sandstone bears the acronym of a helmeted knight’s head between the letters F & H. In 1903, Count Charles Henri Olivier Hallez d’Arros founded a ceramics factory in Pierrefonds in Oise. He was joined in 1912 by the ceramist Emile Bouillon who gave the young factory new momentum. Under the brand “La faence Hraldique”, he produces many pieces of these Pierrefonds sandstones with dripping blue enamels which are best known for their spectacular crystallizations. Moving away from early pieces of medieval inspiration, he developed creations typical of Art Nouveau. After a peak during the interwar period, production will decline to cease definitively in 1986. For the state, a jump to report, small cooking defects. However, these bookends are in good overall condition.
