Description
A rare square table for playing cards or board games originally designed by the Thonet company at the end of the 19th Century. It can be found in Thonet sales catalogues as model number 8. This particular piece is believed to be made by the Thonet company in one of their factories in former Czechoslovakia around the 1920s.
The table has got a square table top with curved edges. Underneath the table, on right side of each side are four small sliding drawers. The main design feature are the S shaped bended legs – a charming example of the Thonet trademark technique of wood bending. These four legs also hold a lower shelf in the middle. The whole table is a dark brown colour with a nice subtle pattern coming through the wood on all parts.
The table has no visible Thonet Company label, however this model can be found in various Thonet furniture catalogues.
The table is in great vintage condition with some minor wear and patina gained by using over the years. The whole piece has been recently refurbished to its former glory by our experienced craftsman who has carried the restoration to the highest standard and by using only the original techniques. The entire piece has been hand finished by Shellac varnish in order to achieve an original dark brown finish.
