Description
The Barge is original lithography realized by Aubrey Beardsley in 1896, as part of the Suite “The Rape of the Lock”. Good conditions. Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898) was an English illustrator, writer and painter, rather influential in theater environments at the time of Oscar Wilde. Beardsleys feelings clearly prelude to the sensitivity of the twentieth century: the comic, the satirical, the playful, the fantasy liberated, the dreamlike, the nightmare, the fear, the horrid, the satanic, the death, the joy of living, the friendship, the love, the grotesque, the sexuality, the woman, the fetus, the nature. All this represented in a contrast between black and white, in a dialectic of marked lines, in a slight pointillism, in figures even more present because without relief, in stylizations and symbolism, with references to oriental motifs, with exaltation of the abstract line or with abundance of concrete details.
